Collide Posters

Here are a few development poster designs I have created for my collide physical piece, I think the glitched background sets the mood for the image as it shows that the message is about the effects of the digital age.

Butterfly Development

This is a butterfly animation I created using 4 looped images, 3 of the images were traced of the same thing and I changed 1 of them to show a big movement in the wings. I found this process quite simple and effective, I rendered it out without a background so I can use it as a layer in other animations.

These are the 4 images I used to create the butterfly animation.

Objects into words 2

I decided to create the words 'addicted and 'addiction' out of tablets, this is the outcome so far.

I made a short animation of my creating the letters just in my spare time.

C4D Character Modelling

In this Process and Production workshop we were doing character modelling in Cinema 4D.
We started out with a simple hnd draw character and imported it into C4D, we then used the Polygon tool, Point tool and Object tool to create our character. This was a difficult process and having little experience in using C4D I found it hard to figure out how to use each tool. The class focussed on character modelling for 2 seminars as it was such a new process to most of us.

This is a screengrab taken during the process of creating the model, it was difficult to get the shapes right without having Subdivision surfaces turned on as there were points sticking out of the wrong places.

Once Subdivision surfaces were switched on I found the process alot more rewarding as I could see what I had been creating. I am pleased with the outcome so far and feel it is a success for my first attempt at character modelling.

William Kentridge: How we make sense of the world

Lecture notes:

William Kentridge is a South African artist best known for his prints, drawings and animation films.

"Johannesburg the Second Greatest City after Paris" is an animation made from 25 drawings. It introduces the viewer to characters central to most of Kentridge's subsequent films in his series. Soho Eckstein is a prosperous Johannesburg property developer, equally indifferent to the well-being of his workers and the emotional needs of his wife. Made at the time when international pressure on South Africa to abolish apartheid had reached it's greatest intensity, the film is a reminder that western societies were once built on similarly inhumane principles.

Cameras in After Effects

In this process and production workshop we were creating a 3D scene inspired by MGMT-All we ever wanted was everything. We started by creating vector images in Illustrator with each object on a different layer and different colour, we put this in after effects and used the camera move to give the effect of the screen gliding through the buildings and back to show the full picture. We also created an effect on some objects which looked like it was unrolling onto the page, I feel this effect could workwell however in my scene it does not fit.

This is a screengrab of my illustrator file with the objects in it. I used the theme of Paris as I recently went there and I feel it is a city with a lot of cultural landmarks. The colours I used in my piece were from a colourwheel I found of the colours of Paris. I was originally going to add in more famous parts of Paris, such as the moulin rouge and the Arc De Triomphe but I had too many layers and didn't want the animation to look cluttered.

This is my final animation, I feel the overall attempt at using cameras in after effects was good, however I think it flows too quickly and you don't get chance to view the whole end scene.

Geometric Art

My interest in geometric art led me to find these inspiring artworks created by illustrator Kerby Rosanes, he calls this series 'Geometric Beasts'.
These are beautiful and unique illustrations and I hope to create something on this level in my career.
